At the moment I own a '78 Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee. Anyone who saw Stephen King's "Christine" will appreciate how I came across this one. No folks, sorry it wasn't sitting in a farmer's barn like so many others claim. On Friday, Feb 13, 1998, I was on my way to a store in a beat up grey '79 Cougar XR7 when out of the corner of my eye, across 6 lanes of traffic, I saw a burst of blue. I just had to turn off and go back to the out of the way used car lot to see the beautiful blue car. It was the Diamond Jubilee. The first one I had ever seen. Headlight doors up from not being started for a while, rust along the bottom and wheel wells, hood ornament replaced with a chrome one, but still, to me, a diamond in the rough. I am the 2nd owner, which makes it even more valuable to me. I would like to publicly thank the Thunderbird Ranch for the reasonably priced correct "colored" hood ornament. A lot of the cosmetic parts for this car are very hard to find. Such as the T-Bird emblems on the 4 seatbacks and the door cosmetics. My Thunderbird isn't ready to be seen, yet. However, here is an example of what it will look like when completely restored. MSRP in 1978 was $10,106. I have been told that there are less than 1,300 left out of 18,994 manufactured. For the moment, enjoy these 60-66 Thunderbirds I have found on the net. |
